Industrial Marine Solutions Ltd was contacted in July 2026 to support a vessel in Cobh Harbour, County Cork, Ireland. The vessel required two shaft bearings to be securely bedded using Chockfast resin.
The project required rapid preparation, international travel and close coordination with the customer. Despite an unexpected delay on site, our technician completed the installation within the required timeframe and confirmed that both Chockfast pours had cured successfully.
Our customer provided the required chock dimensions before the work began. Using this information, the Industrial Marine Solutions team prepared the correct materials and arranged for them to be transported to Ireland.
Careful preparation is essential for marine chocking projects. The correct quantity of resin, hardener and damming materials must be available to ensure the installation can be completed efficiently and accurately.
Once the materials had been organised, our technician travelled from Poole to Fishguard in Wales to board the overnight ferry to Rosslare.
The technician arrived in Rosslare at approximately 5:30am before completing a further four-hour drive to Cobh Harbour.
On arrival aboard the vessel, the team was informed that some essential damming materials had been left in Dublin. This resulted in a four-hour delay while the customer arranged for a driver to collect and deliver the missing items.
Although the delay affected the planned schedule, our technician remained on site and was ready to begin the installation as soon as the required materials arrived.
Once all materials were available, the damming work around the two shaft bearings was completed.
Damming is a critical stage of a Chockfast installation. The temporary barriers must be properly positioned and sealed to contain the liquid resin while allowing it to flow evenly beneath and around the bearing foundations.
The prepared areas were checked before the resin application began, helping to reduce the risk of leakage and ensure a consistent finished chock.
Following completion of the damming work, the Chockfast resin and hardener were prepared for application.
The mixed Chockfast was carefully poured into the prepared areas beneath the two shaft bearings. The resin was then left to cure, forming a solid and durable foundation designed to support the bearings and maintain their correct position.
Accurate application is particularly important for shaft bearing installations, where stability and alignment can directly affect the performance and reliability of the vessel’s propulsion system.
Our technician returned to the vessel the following morning to inspect the completed installation.
After confirming that the resin had cured correctly and the installation was successful, the damming materials were stripped out. The working area was then cleaned and left tidy before the technician departed Cobh for the return journey to Rosslare and Fishguard.
The shaft bearing chocking project was successfully completed despite the unexpected delay caused by the missing damming materials.
Through effective preparation, flexible working and experienced Chockfast application, Industrial Marine Solutions Ltd was able to complete the work safely and within the customer’s required timeframe.
