Industrial Marine Solutions Ltd was contacted by a customer requiring two marine gearboxes to be re-chocked aboard a vessel located in Aberdeen Harbour.
The work needed to be completed within a limited timeframe, requiring careful preparation and efficient coordination between the customer and our specialist marine technicians. Our team responded at short notice, preparing the required materials and arranging for two experienced technicians to travel to Aberdeen.
Before travelling to the vessel, the necessary Chockfast materials and application equipment were prepared and sent directly to the customer. This ensured everything required for the gearbox re-chocking work was available on site and ready for use.
Once the customer had completed the precision alignment of both gearboxes, our technicians were able to begin preparing the surrounding areas for the Chockfast pour.
Correct alignment is a vital part of any marine gearbox installation or re-chocking project. The equipment must be positioned accurately before the resin is applied, as the cured chocking material will form a strong and permanent foundation beneath the machinery.
Our technicians carefully prepared and installed the damming materials around both gearbox foundations. These dams contain the liquid resin during the pouring process and help ensure the Chockfast flows evenly throughout the required areas.
The team inspected each prepared section to confirm it was properly sealed and ready for the resin application.
Before pouring, the Chockfast resin and hardener were conditioned to the correct temperature. Maintaining the correct material temperature supports effective mixing, controlled flow and reliable curing.
Once the resin and hardener had been thoroughly prepared, the Chockfast was poured into the dammed areas surrounding both gearboxes. The application was completed carefully to create a secure and consistent foundation beneath the aligned machinery.
The following morning, our technicians returned to the vessel to inspect the completed Chockfast pour.
The resin had cured successfully, and the team confirmed that the application was secure and free from visible issues. Once the inspection had been completed, the temporary damming materials were removed and the working areas were cleared.
The completed Chockfast installation provided both gearboxes with a stable and durable foundation, helping maintain accurate alignment and reliable operation.
The project was completed successfully within the customer’s required timeframe. Through careful planning, rapid mobilisation and experienced application, our technicians were able to carry out the gearbox re-chocking work without unnecessary delays.
