Chockfast Rudder Stock Repair on the VOS Glory

Precision Marine Repairs in the North Sea

When operating offshore, reliability is essential. Even the smallest movement within a vessel’s steering system can have significant consequences, making high-quality installation and repair work critical.

Industrial Marine Solutions (IMS) recently completed a specialist Chockfast resin installation aboard the VOS Glory, a North Sea standby safety vessel, ensuring the rudder stock assembly remains secure, stable and ready to perform in demanding offshore conditions.

The Challenge

The project required specialist resin injection to secure both the upper and lower rudder stock positions. Working offshore presents unique challenges, including restricted access, changing weather conditions and the need to complete work efficiently without compromising quality.

Every stage of the installation had to be carried out with absolute precision to achieve long-lasting performance in a harsh marine environment.

Our Solution

IMS technicians Ben Haseldine and Andy Kenway spent two days aboard the vessel carrying out the installation using Chockfast epoxy resin, a trusted solution for high-strength machinery grouting and marine applications.

The work included:

  • Precision injection of Chockfast resin into the upper rudder stock position.
  • Precision injection of Chockfast resin into the lower rudder stock position.
  • Careful monitoring throughout the curing process.
  • Sealing the lower rings using Phillybond Orange to provide protection against seawater ingress.
  • Final inspection to ensure a clean, durable and professional finish.

By combining proven products with experienced installation techniques, the team delivered a repair designed to withstand the demanding conditions of offshore service.

The Result

The completed installation provides the VOS Glory with a secure and reliable rudder stock assembly, helping maintain operational safety and long-term performance at sea.

The addition of Phillybond Orange creates an effective seal against seawater while delivering a neat finish that reflects IMS’s commitment to quality workmanship.

We have worked with UK resins for many years now. They supply an excellent service to us, sometimes at short notice. They have carried a range of different applications for us on ships from stern tube sealing to engine and winch seats. All the teams that have attended our site have a great knowledge of the products and always see the job through, we’ve had a few late nights over the years. Anytime we have any issues with a customer who is unsure of what they need, Ron and team are at the end of the phone helping us find a solution.
